つかめなくて困っている言葉 その2
Be supposed to
も、イマイチつかめません。

日本で勉強していたときからよくわからなくて、
そのときのルームメイトに聞いたら、
「アメリカに行けばわかるんじゃん?」
とかる~くさじを投げられた言葉でもあります・・・・・・
↑絶対に、しゃべれるけど説明できないからうまく逃げたに違いない。

これはよく聞くんですが、言いたいこともわかるんですが、
自分が使えるほどはつかめない。

【英和】
~だと思う、考える (語調をやわらげる)
想像する、推測する、仮定する 
もし・・・~としたら (If)
(後続節の中は内容の確実性が高い場合は直説法現在、それ以外は仮定法)
・・・したらどうか (I~)
(進行形不可)

ふ~む。
I think~
I am going to~
とは違うんでしょうかねえ・・・・・・

それに、If=supposeってことは、
If がなくてsupposeだけでも、仮定法なときもあるのかなあ・・・・・・
・・・・・・直説法って、なに?

-ingはだめって書いてあるけど、
-edをつけるのか、原型で使うのかで、
びみょ~に悩むことの方がわたしには問題だわ。
そもそもbe supposed toはsupposeという言葉だけで使えるのかな。
主語が人間だったら、とかなのかな。

こういうときは英英辞典の方が使えますよねー。

You are supposed to buy a ticket, but not many people do.
I thought we were supposed to be paid today.
You were supposed to be here an hour ago.
How was I supposed to know you were watching for me?
What is that supposed to mean?

To be generally believed or expected to be/ do something

I have not seen it myself, but it is supposed to be a great movie.

Not be supposed to do something
To not be allowed to do something

You are not supposed to walk on the grass.


う~ん・・・・・・・・・
Be動詞が入るときと入らないときの違いは何?
意味が変わっちゃうのかな・・・・・・・・・
主語が人のとき、というわたしの予想はハズレだし。

しかも、こんなにいっぱい書いておいて、
要するにthinkってこと?という結論に達しそうだし。
